Yesterday I shared with you a video featuring some !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! by drivers in the U.S. Midwest. As you know, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Some of those mistakes involve !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . In this video, you will see me cheat a speeding ticket twice, both time due to the mercy of others.
In the first clip, I had the cruise set at about 81 in a 70. Suddenly, in the median, I spotted an official-looking vehicle. I slowed to 70 and moved over, but as I passed, the intimidating black Tahoe, an unmarked highway patrol car, fired up, hung a u-turn, and came after me. I basically began to surrender, until I realized he was about to pass me. The video doesn’t show it, but he passed me doing about 75, caught up to and passed the Cayenne that I had been pacing, and then set his cruise at 70 and ran pace car for us for a few miles before returning to lookout duty in the median. Jump scare aside, the officer succeeded in getting both myself and the Porsche to slow down without writing a ticket. So thank you, Officer Nice Guy. And your truck is pretty badass.
The second clip is more straightforward. This time I was going a touch slower, probably 78 in a 70, when an oncoming Acura TL began flashing his high beams. I took this to be a warning of a speed trap ahead and slowed to 70. Sure enough, over the next hill, there was a Missouri State Trooper F-350 camped out on an overpass, waiting to nab a speeder. Some of these speed traps will hit you for 8 over, so the Acura likely saved my bacon.

They shouldn't be allowed to pull you over in an F350. That just seems wrong.

They’d have to catch me in an F-350 first ;)
I’ve heard that some people who get stopped by those actually open by joking to the officer, “I didn’t know mechanics/plumbers/lawn care people could write tickets!”
That usually doesn’t end well.

I fricking hate driving through Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas on I-35 due to all the cops running radar, plus Kansas charging me for driving on a damn interstate.

Missouri seems especially bad.

I just bought that Missing Persons record (with “Walking in LA” on it) a few days ago for $0.77! The sleeve is one of my new favorites and will definitely go up on my wall if and when I find the space.

“Feels like the first time” an Acura driver made a heads up play.
I’m still tired this morning, sue me.

I hate speed traps. Ugh. Was headed into Moab from somewhere south a few weeks ago and the guy behind me got pulled for 2 over. I’d slowed because of a light flasher so the dude was tailgating me, but not close enough to get pulled for it. You’d think 1-5 over would be a natural variation in speed somewhere hilly, but nope.

It’s weird with those dudes. Some days you’e 3 MPH over and the ticket you. The other night on the freeway here, I was racing home on my bike as I had to go the bathroom really bad. It was around midnight and I was going about 95 MPH when a cop passed me doing over 100 MPH. Just lucky I guess.
